Odisha May Soon Get New Water Sports Destinations

The five districts of Odisha: Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, and Puri, may soon emerge as major water sports destinations in the state. According to The Times of India, the tourism department has identified several sites in these districts where water sports activities can be introduced for adventure and thrill seekers.

Authorities have already begun examining the technical feasibility of introducing adventurous activities at these locations. Reportedly, several applications for water adventure activities in the five districts have been received through the department’s Go Adventure portal. These proposed sites will now undergo assessment under the Odisha Adventure Tourism Guidelines, 2025.

According to Sambad English, several water bodies have already been shortlisted for verification. These include Chandrabhaga Beach and the Nua Nai river in Puri district, along with Pitamahal Dam in Rourkela, Sundargarh. The team will also visit the Hirakud Reservoir in Sambalpur district.

State Wants To Boost Adventure Tourism

According to The Times of India, officials believe that adventure tourism and water sports activities can significantly boost Odisha’s tourism sector. If Odisha gets new water sports destinations, many thrill seekers are naturally expected to plan trips to the state.

Moreover, apart from water sports, the department is also planning aero-based adventure tourism at several locations across Odisha.
