Parivartini Ekadashi 2025: Meaning & Significance 

Parivartini Ekadashi, which means the “Ekadashi of change”, marks the day when Lord Vishnu is believed to have turned from one side to the other while resting on Shesha Naga (serpent demigod) during his cosmic sleep. The day falls on the 11th day of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada, during the Chaturmas period. In 2025, devotees will observe this day on September 3.

Lord Vishnu changing his sleeping position symbolises a significant spiritual change and awakening. Devotees believe that observing a fast and offering prayers to Lord Vishnu can help remove past sins and negativity in one’s life. It is also believed to bring blessings and guide one closer to moksha (liberation).

Timings, Rituals And Fasting Rules 

This year, Parivartini Ekadashi begins on September 3, 2025, at 3:53 am and ends on September 4, 2025, at 4:21 am. Besides that, devotees observing the fast will perform Parana (breaking of the fast) on September 4 between 1:36 pm and 4:07 pm, after the completion of Hari Vasara, which ends at 10:18 am.

Many devotees observe a strict fast on this day. Some abstain from food completely, while others consume only satvik meals like fruits or milk. Along with fasting, devotees perform special prayers and rituals dedicated to Lord Vishnu on Parivartini Ekadashi, which include:

• Offering flowers, tulsi leaves, and incense to Lord Vishnu’s idol.
• Chanting the Vishnu Sahasranama and other devotional hymns to please Lord Vishnu.
• Devoting time to prayers and deep meditation.
• Performing acts of charity, offering help to those in need, and spreading compassion.
