Part Of Jammu’s Tawi Bridge Collapses After Heavy Downpour; Video Shows Vehicles Stranded

Jammu and Kashmir has been facing incessant rain, with the authorities already issuing a flood warning. In a recent turn of events, a portion of the Tawi River Bridge in Jammu caved in, leaving several vehicles stranded and bringing traffic to a complete halt. The authorities are also monitoring the situation currently. Here’s more on this. 

Relentless Rain Triggers Collapse Of Tawi Bridge In Jammu

Relentless rainfall has continued to lash Jammu and Kashmir, triggering landslides, flash floods and widespread disruption. A video now going viral on X shows the road near the fourth Tawi bridge collapsing. According to a report by Live Mint, the bridge gave way under the force of the swelling river after days of heavy downpour.

Several vehicles were left stranded on the damaged stretch. The video posted by Shesh Paul Vaid, Former DGP of J&K, on X captures terrifying visuals from the site, with cars seen dangerously close to being swept away as people rushed to rescue those trapped inside. Shesh Paul Vaid also wrote, “As the Tawi Bridge began to collapse after heavy rains battered Jammu, the timely intervention of local police and civilians helped save lives today. Kudos to them! The LG administration should recognise and reward them for their presence of mind.”

Authorities On High Alert

As per a report by Hindustan Times, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the situation in Jammu as quite serious. He has instructed the administration to remain on high alert. A meeting was also chaired in Srinagar to review flood control measures and bring the situation under control.

For the uninitiated, moderate to heavy rainfall has lashed the Jammu division for the third consecutive day on Tuesday. Almost all rivers and streams are either above or close to the danger mark. Several low-lying areas and key roads have been submerged, disrupting daily life for residents. Vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has also been temporarily suspended as a safety measure.

Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from low-lying areas affected by the rising waters. The situation remains dire, and it is hoped that conditions improve soon.
