Travelling With Your Pets Just Got Easier With Air India
Are you dreaming of travelling with your pet on a flight? If yes, then rejoice as Air India has made it a lot easier. Furry companions who weigh less than 10 kg can now fly conveniently on Air India in the cabin. This airline believes that “travelling is always better when your furry companions are part of your journey,” and we absolutely agree.
According to a report by The Free Press Journal, Air India has simplified its guidelines under the new programme, ‘Paws on Board’. You would also be delighted to know that the airline has reduced booking time from 72 hours to 48 hours before travel, for the convenience of pet parents. This updated pet policy by Air India covers 80 domestic and international routes. It aims to make pet travel easier for hundreds of pet parents.

Carriers Should Be Soft & Leak-proof
According to a report by The Free Press Journal, pets weighing up to 10 kg (including the carrier) will be permitted to travel in the economy cabin. They will be seated in the last row, aisle seats. But the airline has limited in-cabin carriage to a maximum of two pets per flight.
According to the rules, the pet carrier should be of a specific type. It should be soft, leak-proof and ventilated. The carrier should not exceed 17x10x9 inches. Pets who weigh more than 10 kg and less than 32 kg must be booked separately as checked baggage. They will require a hard-case carrier according to the IATA guidelines. Pets above 32 kg will be booked as cargo. Bookings for the service should be confirmed at least 48 hours before departure, after all document verification.
The charge for the ‘Paws on Board’ service is non-refundable. Here are the fees.
- For pets travelling in-cabin: ₹7,500 for domestic flights; $140 for short-haul international flights; $160 for medium-haul international flights.
- For pets travelling as checked baggage: ₹16,000 for domestic flights and $350 for all international routes.
