Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the final stretch of Mumbai Metro 3 on September 30, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis announced on Tuesday. The new stretch, from Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli to Cuffe Parade, is expected to ease commuting and enhance connectivity in the city significantly. According to News18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the final stretch of Mumbai’s first underground metro line on September 30. With this, the entire 33.5-km Mumbai Metro 3 from Colaba to Seepz would become operational. He will also inaugurate the Navi Mumbai International Airport on the same day. The new airport will ease congestion at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

The Aqua Line (Mumbai Metro 3) has been launched in phases. The first phase of the line, Aarey Colony to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), was inaugurated on October 7, 2024. The second phase, between BKC and Worli, was opened on May 9, 2025. With the final phase set to open, commuters will be able to cover the distance between Colaba and Aarey Colony in an hour, which currently takes two to two and a half hours during peak traffic time on the road.

The third phase of Mumbai Metro 3 will have the following stations –

Science Museum
Mahalaxmi
Mumbai Central
Grant Road
Girgaon
Kalbadevi
CSMT
Hutatma Chowk
Churchgate
Vidhan Bhavan
Cuffe Parade

As per reports, the preliminary inspection of the final phase of the corridor was carried out last week, and the fire safety clearance is awaited now. The entire Mumbai Metro 3 line is expected to serve up to 13 lakh passengers annually.
