On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Assam, as part of his three-day tour of eastern and Northeast India. During his visit, he launched major health and infrastructure projects worth ₹18,530 crore, aimed at boosting the nation’s development. Here’s more on this latest development. 

PM Modi Launches Major Development Projects In Assam


PM Modi is currently on a three-day visit to Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar. His visit, which will conclude on September 15, marks major development initiatives in the Northeast and eastern states. As per a report by India Today, he unveiled infrastructure and industrial projects worth over ₹18,500 crore in Assam’s Darrang and Golaghat districts. At Mangaldai in Assam, he laid the foundation stone for Darrang Medical College, which will also serve as a nursing college and GNM school with an investment of ₹570 crore. 

He also launched two key connectivity projects: the ₹1,200 crore Narengi-Kuruwa Bridge and the ₹4,530 crore Guwahati Ring Road project, aimed at connecting Kamrup and Darrang districts with Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district. These landmark projects are aimed at easing traffic congestion and boosting connectivity in the region. PM Narendra Modi also shared this update on his official X account.

Projects Aimed To Boost Development & Sustainability 

According to ABP Live, PM Modi will inaugurate the newly constructed ₹500 crore bamboo-based ethanol plant and the ₹7,230 crore Petro Fluidised Catalytic Cracker unit at the Numaligarh Refinery in Golaghat during his visit. These projects aim to promote clean energy, sustainability, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

In addition, PM Modi participated in the 100th birth anniversary celebrations of Bharat Ratna singer-musician Dr Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati. He said Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s songs continue to unite India and hold the power to energise people across generations. PM will head to Kolkata as part of his visit. 

These health, connectivity, and energy projects worth thousands of crores will not only boost infrastructure in the Northeast but also significantly improve connectivity and sustainability across the region.
