Rahul Gandhi Visits Ghantewala Sweet Shop In Chandni Chowk
The true spirit of Diwali isn’t just about lighting diyas at home but also about sweets and celebrations. And it seems Rahul Gandhi agrees. The politician visited the historic Ghantewala Sweet Shop in Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi. The shop, an integral part of Delhi’s food culture, was established in 1790 by Lala Sukh Lal Jain, making it 235 years old. According to a report by NDTV, the iconic sweet shop is believed to have served sweets to several Indian leaders, including Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and now Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi shared a video on his X account, wearing an apron and shaping Imartis in a large kadhai. Later in the clip, he was also seen preparing Besan Laddus and giving them the perfect round shape. He captioned the video, “I tried my hand at making Imarti and Besan Laddus at the famous and historic Ghantewala sweet shop in Old Delhi.”
He also added, “The sweetness of this centuries-old prestigious shop remains the same even today – pure, traditional, and heart-touching. The true sweetness of Diwali lies not just in the platter, but also in relationships and society. Tell us all, how are you celebrating your Diwali, and how are you making it special?”

The Shop Uses Pure Ghee To Make Sweets
The iconic sweet shop is currently run by the seventh-generation owner, Sushant Jain. In Rahul Gandhi’s video, Sushant is seen telling him that their family had been ordering sweets from Ghantewala for birthdays and weddings for years. He jokingly added that now they are waiting for Rahul Gandhi’s wedding so that he too can order sweets from their shop.
Sushant Jain also shared that all their sweets are made from pure desi ghee. He also said that their sweets contain no artificial colours, which makes them taste authentic every time. Apart from Imartis and Besan Laddus, their speciality also includes the famous Sohan Halwa. The video ended with Rahul Gandhi and the owner discussing the culture of Indian sweets, after which Rahul interacted with the staff and clicked pictures with them.
The video is surely heartwarming, and honestly, it’s making us crave those freshly made Besan Laddus from Ghantewala. Have you ever visited this iconic sweet shop in Chandni Chowk?
