It’s sad news for Pune people, as the Pune Municipal Corporation on Wednesday demolished the popular Rameshwaram cafe. The decision came after the property was said to have ‘unauthorised extensions’. Read on to know more about the development.
Why Did The Pune Municipal Corporation Demolish The Rameshwaram Cafe?
According to NDTV, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday demolished The Rameshwaram Cafe, stating that the building breached the zoning rules and restricted the necessary open space in front of the property. After the officials found that additional flooring and structural extensions had been built beyond the approved limits, the civic body conducted an anti-encroachment drive at Rameshwaram Cafe’s Viman Nagar outlet. As per the news portal, PMC states that alterations blocked the required margin of the building.

As part of their anti-encroachment operation in Zone 4, the PMC conducted the demolition on Wednesday. NDTV also reported that officials said the cafe had built additional flooring and extensions outside the building plan, which was approved. This additional construction reduced the required open space in front of the restaurant. During the demolition, civic teams removed the illegal part of the restaurant.
Not only this, but authorities also cleared several other encroachments in the nearby area. In total, almost 6,500 square feet of illegal buildings were removed from multiple spots like Neco Garden, Ganpati Mandir Chowk and others.
