Shravan 2025 has marked a golden chapter in the history of Uttar Pradesh’s religious tourism. This year, the state witnessed an unparalleled surge in pilgrims across key temples and ghats. The large number of devotees significantly boosted the local economy, highlighting UP’s significance as a spiritual destination.
Shravan 2025 Boosts Uttar Pradesh Regional Tourism
Shravan is considered one of the holiest months for Hindus. And this year, devotion was visible in the extraordinary pilgrim footfall across Uttar Pradesh. Key temples, ghats, and fairs recorded record numbers, strengthening the state’s position as India’s leading spiritual destination.
During the month of ‘Mahadev’, worshippers of Lord Shiva flocked across the state. Lucknow’s Mankameshwar Temple saw an average of 15,000-20,000 visitors daily, while Budheshwar Temple recorded over 20,000 devotees every Monday and Wednesday. Barabanki’s Lodheswar Mahadev Temple welcomed nearly 1.2 million devotees during Shravan, with Mondays drawing up to 300,000 visitors(Mondays are considered holy by Lord Shiva devotees). Bagpat’s Shravan Mela attracted approximately 1.4 million attendees, with over 500,000 visiting in a single day.

Major Temples And Melas Draw Millions Of Pilgrims
More than 100,000 Kanwariyas carried Ganga water from Hapur’s Garhmukteshwar Ghat. Lakhimpur Kheri’s Gola Gokaran Nath Temple saw between 800,000 and 1 million visitors. Apart from these temples, Varanasi’s Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham remained the crown jewel of Shravan 2025, recording a 10% increase in footfall compared to 2024. It averaged 70,000-82,000 visitors daily, peaking on Mondays. Moreover, you would also like to know that the pilgrims this year in Uttar Pradesh included nearly 5,000 foreign nationals.
The huge number of pilgrims made the festivities remarkable and also increased demand for prasad vendors and temporary stalls. It boosted the need for transportation and accommodation. This surge in visitors created thousands of seasonal jobs across the state, further supporting the local economy.
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh remarked on this milestone, stating, “Shravan 2025 has gone down as a golden chapter in Uttar Pradesh’s religious, cultural, and economic life. Record-breaking pilgrim turnout has reaffirmed that UP is India’s foremost religious tourism hub. We ensured that every devotee enjoyed an uninterrupted, safe, and fulfilling experience while significantly strengthening infrastructure at pilgrimage sites.”
Principal Secretary for Tourism and Culture Mukesh Kumar Meshram added, “The extraordinary crowds of Shravan 2025 are living proof of the success of our religious tourism strategy. From temple management to transport, security, and amenities, preparations were made with meticulous attention to detail to ensure every pilgrim enjoyed a safe, seamless, and unforgettable spiritual experience.”
