North Kashmir is a beautiful mountainous region covering the Kupwara and Bandipora districts. The place sits at the northernmost edge of the Kashmir Valley towards the Line of Control (LoC). It is an underrated destination famous for its pristine alpine meadows. If you ask us, it still is one of the most untouched parts of the Himalayas.
Unlike highly developed places in Kashmir like Gulmarg or Pahalgam, North Kashmir lacks large-scale hotels and restaurants. This is one of the main reasons the destination is still underrated. Moreover, there are security reasons too. But this might soon change. According to Daily Excelsior, the District Administration of Kupwara and the Indian Army have launched ‘Shumali Kashmir’. It is a tourism portal and magazine for North Kashmir.

How Will This Digital Portal Help Travellers?
According to Daily Excelsior, the initiative aims to showcase the destinations of North Kashmir and attract more tourists. Plus, the portal will also help highlight the region’s scenic landscapes, cultural heritage, and adventure tourism potential.
The portal is developed and curated by the Indian Army. It will offer information on destinations across North Kashmir, including Keran, Machhal, Karnah, Tangdhar, Lolab, Gurez, and Kupwara. The information will make it easier for travellers to plan their journeys. There will be information on adventure activities as well. Shumali Kashmir is expected to improve the visibility of lesser-known tourist destinations and boost tourism in border areas.
