Are you dreaming of living in a European country while working remotely? Then this is for you. Spain offers a digital nomad visa for people who work online for companies outside Spain. Sounds amazing for remote workers, right? But there is a catch. Here is what you need to know.
Spain Offers A Digital Nomad Visa For Remote Workers
Remote workers often have the flexibility to work from anywhere. Some even dream of moving abroad while continuing their jobs. Countries like Thailand, Indonesia (Bali), and Vietnam are popular choices because of their low cost of living. But did you know Spain, a European nation, is also offering an opportunity for digital nomads to live and work there?
According to a report by The Financial Express, Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa gives Indian professionals a chance to live and work in Europe legally. You can live comfortably in Spain while continuing to work for your Indian employer, international clients, or even your own business. This visa can last for up to five years. That means your stay and work status remain fully legal and long-term.

There Is A Catch!
But yes, just like we mentioned earlier, there is a catch. According to The Financial Express, Spain’s digital nomad visa is meant for high-earning professionals. An Indian applicant must earn more than ₹30 lakh a year to be eligible. For couples applying together, the combined income should be over ₹40 lakh annually. The income bar is definitely set too high for many Indians.
Apart from income, applicants must have at least three years of professional working experience. They should also have worked remotely for at least three months before applying. There is one more requirement. Your work must be for companies based outside Spain. You cannot take up a local Spanish job on this visa. Consultants, tech professionals, freelancers, founders, and people working online can apply.
Documents Needed To Apply
Applicants must submit proof of income through employment letters or client contracts. Bank statements for the last three months are also required to show steady income. Other documents include proof of residence within the consular area, a police clearance certificate, international health insurance, and identification documents. Applicants must also submit proof of academic qualifications. All documents need to be submitted through the Spanish consulate in India.
Now you must be wondering about the application fees. According to The Financial Express, the basic application fee is around ₹8,000. However, after processing costs, the total expense can go up to ₹1 lakh. Applications are usually processed within 30 days of submission.
There is some good news, too. You can bring your spouse and children with you on a dependent visa! Family members must submit documents proving their relationship with the main applicant
