Flights at Mumbai Airport were briefly disrupted after a SpiceJet Bombardier Q400 flight from Kandla to Mumbai experienced a snag that triggered a full emergency. One of its outer wheels fell off during takeoff from Gujarat’s Kandla. However, the flight landed safely at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, and all passengers were reported safe. X user, @DuddakuntaBJP, shared a video of the aircraft taxiing at the airport without a wheel.
The missing wheel was spotted by authorities on the runway at the aircraft’s departure point. A SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed that the flight from Kandla to Mumbai took off on schedule and landed safely in Mumbai. After a smooth landing, the aircraft taxied to the terminal on its own power, and passengers disembarked normally.

Safe Landing Despite Missing Wheel
According to a report by Republic World, the aircraft landed on its back wheel after fuel was dumped mid-air to ensure a safe landing. The pilot was informed about the missing wheel nearly 20 minutes before landing.
In such cases, pilots are trained to perform emergency landings using other redundant wheels. While situations like this can be serious, modern aircraft are designed with multiple safety systems to ensure safe landings. However, it also depends on the expertise of the pilots. After such incidents, the aircraft is usually sent for inspection and repair.
Just yesterday, on September 11, another SpiceJet Delhi-Kathmandu flight was forced to return to the bay before takeoff due to a suspected tailpipe fire. Passengers were safely disembarked in that case as well.

Though the wheel falling off mid-flight is certainly a scary situation, all passengers were safe, and authorities are awaiting further details on the incident.
