Passenger Finds Metal In A Soft Drink Can On A SpiceJet Flight
As per a report by The Times of India, businessman Abhijit Bhosle was travelling from Goa to Pune with his friends on SpiceJet flight SG-1080 when he experienced a medical emergency. The soft drink that he bought reportedly contained metal shards. Around 15-20 minutes after take-off, the cabin crew began serving refreshments. Abhijit bought a soft drink can along with a packet of fox nuts.
After a few sips, he felt an irritation in his throat followed by stomach pain. The pain quickly became unbearable, prompting his friends Mahesh Gupta and Raj Kumar Agarwal to check his food and drink. When they emptied the can and shook it, they claimed to have found metal shards inside. The group wanted to keep the can as evidence, but the cabin crew allegedly took it away, citing that it was airline property.

Airline Arranged For An Ambulance
After landing at 7:50 pm, SpiceJet arranged for an ambulance, and Abhijit was taken to Ruby Hall Clinic with his friend Raj. Mahesh Gupta narrated the incident to TOI and said he had also filed a written complaint with the airline. Abhijit underwent X-rays and other tests while being admitted for three hours in the hospital.
SpiceJet told TOI that the can was served sealed, which follows the airline’s standard practice. They also clarified that after the passenger experienced discomfort, the crew checked for a doctor on board, but unfortunately, none was available. An ambulance was arranged immediately after landing.
The airline added that comprehensive medical checks, including X-rays of the passenger’s throat, chest and abdomen, revealed no foreign object inside. The attending doctor had advised an endoscopy, which the passenger refused. SpiceJet said all medical expenses were borne by them. Furthermore, the soft drink can was retained for investigation by the vendor as per the airline’s SOP. The passenger was also allowed to document evidence before the can was secured.
