Rejoice! Travelling from the Kozhikode Railway Station, Kerala, has just got easier and more convenient. Tourists and visitors will no longer need to wait for taxis or autorickshaws. They can now easily rent an EV bike at affordable rates. According to a report by The Hindu, the electric bike rental service has officially started at the station. This is Kerala’s first electric bike rental facility and has been launched by the Palakkad Division of Southern Railway.
The official X account of Southern Railway also announced the news on December 11. They wrote, “Palakkad Division introduces the state’s first Electric Bike (EV) rental service at Kozhikode Railway Station, making green, convenient travel easier than ever.” The service not only makes commuting easier for travellers but also improves last-mile connectivity in an eco-friendly way. Here are the rental charges for the e-bikes:
- ₹50 per hour
- ₹500 for 12 hours
- ₹750 for 24 hours

Benefits Of This Service
As per a report by The Hindu, the contractor operating the service has been awarded the state’s first e-bike rental licence. This ensures smooth and compliant operations. The e-bikes offer passengers greater travel flexibility. The service will benefit passengers arriving from nearby towns and tourists who want to explore Kozhikode’s beaches.
Students and working professionals can also use these electric bikes for short-distance travel and to explore markets. The facility aims to reduce the dependence of tourists on autorickshaws and taxis. Reportedly, footfall at Kozhikode Railway Station is steadily increasing. These e-bikes are expected to make daily commuting easier within the city. The initiative also supports a greener ecosystem by promoting zero-emission transport.
