The Government of Gujarat is all set to further boost the state’s tourism sector. Plans are underway to accelerate boost footfall by attracting both domestic and international visitors to the Statue of Unity (SoU). Trekking trails, walkways, and a replica of the Sardar Sarovar Dam near the entrance of Ekta Nagar might be on the cards. Here’s what we know so far.
Statue Of Unity Set For Major Tourism Boost
The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust (SVPRET) held a meeting in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on Wednesday. As per a report by The Times of India, several plans were discussed to boost tourism in Gujarat. The development of accommodation and tourism infrastructure for domestic and international visitors heading to the Statue of Unity (SoU), was among the main discussions. Located in Ekta Nagar, it is the world’s tallest statue dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Reportedly, the discussion focused on proposed plans including creating trekking trails, walkways, and a hospitality district atop the nearby hills. Not only that, but a plan to place a replica of the Sardar Sarovar Dam near the entrance of Ekta Nagar might soon be in the works.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel Led The Meeting
As per the TOI report, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel presided over the meeting. New plans were discussed to make SoU an attractive tourist destination. The government will put efforts to develop accommodation facilities for domestic visitors to the Statue of Unity. They will also focus on establishing facilities for international visitors.
The Gujarat government established SVPRET as an autonomous institution. Their primary objective is to develop a national memorial in memory of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and to undertake various public welfare activities in his honour.
