Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region, recently shared a series of images of the new post office at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology in Surat, Gujarat. He captioned the post with “Not your usual post office @IndiaPostOffice has levelled up.” The photos show colourful graffiti on the walls, postcards, a bright red letter box, and a Gen-Z-inspired space. The post office also has bookshelves, photo frames, tables, chairs, and areas where people can sit and relax. This new post office in Surat clearly carries a Gen-Z vibe with its warm and inviting ambience.
According to a report by The Times of India, this next-generation post office is part of India Post’s nationwide initiative to attract the youth. The space blends traditional postal services with a modern and student-friendly experience. It reflects the theme ‘where age-old trust meets new-age thinking’.

Mini Library, Coffee Machine & More
The post office also offers facilities such as a mini library, a coffee vending machine, and comfortable seating. According to a report by The Times of India, this is not the first or the only next-generation post office planned in India. Authorities are working on transforming 46 existing post offices located within educational campuses of IITs, IIMs, and NITs across the country.
Reportedly, the post office was inaugurated by Postmaster General of the Vadodara Region, Dinesh Kumar Sharma, along with SVNIT In-Charge Director K P Desai. The initiative was guided by the vision of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
