Heavy rains have triggered flash floods across Telangana, with overflowing rivers and lakes inundating highways, railway tracks, and residential areas. The Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local authorities have launched round-the-clock rescue operations to evacuate stranded residents.
Flash Floods In Telangana Claim One Life
According to The Times of India, torrential rainfall across Telangana has triggered flash floods, inundated streets, hit rail traffic, and claimed one life. One person died after a wall of a house collapsed in Kamareddy amid heavy rainfall. Another person is missing in another flood-related incident.
Incessant rainfall in the Kamareddy and Medak regions of Telangana inundated a few towns and villages on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Argonda witnessed 418.3 mm of rainfall, Akkapur in Nirmal district reported 302.5 mm, Medak, Kamareddy, and Nirmal observed rainfall between 200 and 300 mm, as per Telangana Development Planning Society. The heavy downpour brought road and rail traffic between Hyderabad and Kamareddy to a halt.
Highways, railway tracks, and residential areas in various Telangana towns and villages were inundated as overflowing rivulets, streams, and lakes burst their banks. The Pocharam Reservoir in Nagireddypet was overflowing by about eight feet, amid heavy rainfall.
Some reports show that a farmer went missing due to the flash floods, and five others were trapped in Upper Maneru near Gambhiraopet.
Rescue Work By NDRF Underway
Rescue operations by the Army and NDRF are now underway. TOI reported that more than 500 people were rescued and shifted to safer places after flash floods hit Telangana. They are also making arrangements for more than 1,000 people who were displaced due to the heavy rainfall. Evacuation work for another 1,000 people is underway. As per reports, the National Highway 44 was blocked for nearly 30 km in Kamareddy due to an overflowing river.
