Thailand Plans To Reduce Visa-Free Stay For Travellers
Thailand is planning to reduce the visa-free stay period for tourists from 93 countries, including India, from 60 days to 30 days. According to The Telegraph, the move aims to curb misuse of long-term stays and illegal activities. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will reportedly submit a proposal to the Cabinet seeking approval for the change. However, it is still not clear when the new rule will come into effect.
Thailand, a country known for its beautiful beaches, temples, food, and culture, has allowed tourists from 93 countries to stay visa-free for up to 60 days since July 2024. These countries include India, Bahrain, Bhutan, China, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and several Western nations. But this could soon change.

What It Means For Indian Travellers
According to The Telegraph, authorities are also planning to tighten scrutiny of other visa categories to ensure that visitors comply with the purpose of their visas and follow all rules. Now, you must be wondering what this means for Indian travellers. Basically, if the rule comes into effect, travellers may need to apply for visa extensions sooner if they are planning to stay in the country for a longer time.
Plus, travellers will also have to plan ahead if they are thinking of staying in Thailand for more than 30 days to avoid inconvenience. As of May 2026, Indian passport holders can enter Thailand without a visa for tourism or short-term business visits for up to 60 days, with the option of a further 30-day extension. Now, it remains to be seen how this new rule could change that.
