Analysing accommodation search data from India, Agoda has revealed some interesting insights into the most preferred visa-free and visa-on-arrival destinations among Indian travellers, and here’s more about it.
Thailand & Malaysia Emerge As Top Visa‑Free Destinations For Indians
Agoda’s latest accommodation search data have shown that Thailand and Malaysia are the most preferred visa free international destinations among Indian travellers. Interestingly, Indonesia has continued its supremacy and still leads among visa on arrival (VOA) destinations for Indians.
The data shows a clear rise in interest compared to last year, especially for Asian destinations that offer easy entry along with rich leisure and cultural experiences. Sri Lanka recorded a strong surge in accommodation searches, with a notable 61% rise compared to last year. At the same time, the Maldives continues to attract Indian travellers looking for luxury island getaways and short-haul premium escapes. The Philippines witnessed a 73% year-on-year increase in searches, while Laos saw the biggest jump, with interest from Indian travellers soaring by 97%.

Commenting on the trend, Gaurav Malik, Country Director, Indian Subcontinent & Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, said, “Indian travellers are becoming increasingly intentional about their travel choices, with ease of visa accessibility playing a decisive role. Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook Report also revealed that if visa restrictions were not a factor, 84% of Indians would travel more frequently. 91% said that they would be open to exploring new destinations, the highest among their Asian peers.”
