Maihar is home to the revered Maa Sharda Temple, visited by lakhs of devotees during Navratri, making the city of utmost religious importance. The administration has banned the sale of meat, fish, and eggs until Navratri ends on October 2. As per a report by The Indian Express, SDM Divya Patel stated that the Maa Sharda Kwar Navratri fair will be conducted in Maihar from September 22 to October 2. The administration took this decision to respect the sentiments of devotees.

The order was issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, which grants the power to issue immediate preventive orders in urgent cases of nuisance. Similarly, in Umaria, SDM Kamlesh Neeraj also banned the sale of non-vegetarian food for these nine days. The decision came after consulting members of different communities.

Furthermore, in Gurugram, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. The memorandum sought the closure of all meat and fish shops during Navratri. The memorandum stated that these shops near temples, educational institutions, and residential areas hurt the sentiments of devotees.

In Uttar Pradesh’s village, Harpur, police have directed hotels serving non-vegetarian food and meat shops to remain closed until October 2. Authorities issued a formal notice to these hotels and shop operators to ensure they comply with the temporary restrictions.
