“They’re Just Following The Rules,” Netizens Bash Influencer For Complaining About Akasa Air’s 500GM Extra Baggage Charge

Akasa Air Baggage charge

It’s quite common for Instagram users and even well-known content creators to complain about airline services or certain incidents online. Many times, netizens support them if the reason seems valid. But this time, a social media influencer found herself at the receiving end after she took to Instagram to share how Akasa Air asked her to pay extra for overweight baggage. Here’s what happened.

Influencer Bashes Akasa Air For Taking Extra Money For Overweight Baggage

All airlines have their baggage policies, which are basically clear rules about how much luggage passengers can bring, including weight, size, and type. The rules differ for carry-on and checked-in baggage. Most airlines have a strict weight allowance, and if your luggage exceeds that limit, you are usually told to either remove some items or pay extra. That’s why travellers with their suitcases open at airports are such a common sight.

This is exactly what happened with social media influencer Garima Goel. She recently took to Instagram to share her experience with her followers. In the clip, she said she was travelling with Akasa Air, which charged extra even for an additional 500 grams. She also mentioned that the airline checked the weight of hand baggage multiple times, including laptop bags.

Garima added that she’s a frequent flyer and has never faced such strict checks with other airlines. She advised her followers to check their luggage weight properly before heading to the airport, warning that even 200-500 grams extra could lead to additional charges. Her caption read, “Bhai Akasa Air ne toh bawaal kaat rakha hai. 500 GM excess weight ke liye paise maang rahe hain. Have u faced a similar issue with Akasa or other airlines???? Tell me in comments.”

Netizens Defend The Airline For Charging Extra

This time, however, netizens did not side with the influencer. Many users criticised Garima and said that all airlines have clear baggage rules which every passenger must follow. One user wrote, “They are just following the rules, what’s wrong with that?” Another commented, “Nowadays, if anyone follows rules strictly, people find it weird.” One user wrote, “They’re doing the right thing. People end up taking 2 bags in check-in and occupying way too much space in the overhead bins.”

One commented, “They’re following the rules which they have clearly laid down on their website, and that’s what every airline does. Just because you don’t want to follow it, it’s weird, ” while another also asked, “Isn’t it for our own safety?” Several users even applauded Akasa Air for following their rules with consistency. A few, however, did agree with Garima, as well.
