Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai is all about massive pandals with huge crowds, dancing to the beats of dhol. But this year, something truly one-of-a-kind is happening. For the first time in India, Ganpati Bappa will not stay at one place. Instead, he will travel across the city on a special open double-decker bus, blessing everyone along the way. Yes, you read that right! This Ganesh Chaturthi, Bappa is coming to you with Mumbai Cha Sheth.
Mumbai Cha Sheth, The Moving Ganpati
The iconic celebration known as Mumbai Cha Sheth has always been special, but 2025 takes it to another level. Organised by Red Cherry Entertainment under the leadership of Keyur Sheth, this is the 9th year of the festival. And the theme is unforgettable: “Bappa is coming to you.”
From 27th August to 6th September 2025, Lord Ganesha will travel across 50+ localities in Mumbai and Thane in an open double-decker bus called “Hijack India 2.0.” The bus itself will become a moving pandal, carrying the grand murti of Mumbai Cha Sheth and allowing thousands of devotees to take darshan without standing in long queues.
Yes, the idea of a moving Ganpati is surely unique. However, the thought behind it makes it even more special. Because of the crowds, long queues of darshans, and waiting time, a lot of devotees in Mumbai often miss out on visiting famous pandals. But this Ganesh Chaturthi, Mumbai Cha Sheth will ensure everyone gets the darshan of Ganpati Bappa.
Along with the yatra, there’s also a Donation Van initiative called “Bappa ka Maan, Aapka Samaan”, which will collect and distribute essentials for underprivileged communities. This makes the celebration even more meaningful.
