The city itself was renamed Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar nearly three years ago. Previously, Aurangabad was named after the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Renaming the city, and now the railway station, is a tribute to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the brave son of the legendary Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The original proposal to rename the city was introduced by the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government, Times Now reported. The current BJP-led Mahayuti government formalised the railway station’s new identity with the official notification issued on October 15.

For travellers, this change is more than a new name. It serves as a reminder of the city’s rich history and culture. Every corner of the city, from the streets to the forts, has a story to tell about courage and tradition.
