Uttarakhand: 5 Dead As Bus Falls 70 Metres Into Gorge In Tehri; Rescue Operations Underway

A major tragedy struck Uttarakhand on Monday. Five people lost their lives while many were injured after a bus fell into a 70-metre-deep gorge. The bus was reportedly carrying 28 passengers. The rescue operation is still underway. Here are all the latest details of the unfortunate accident.

Bus Falls Into Gorge In Tehri District, Uttarakhand

The bus accident took place near Kunjapuri-Hindolakhal in the Narendranagar area of Uttarakhand’s Tehri district. As per a report by Hindustan Times, it was carrying 28 passengers, of whom five have died, while several are injured. According to State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) officials, the district control room alerted the SDRF Corps Control Room about the accident on Monday afternoon. @DDnews_dehradun also shared images of the unfortunate bus accident. 

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami also took to X to share the news. He called the incident “heartbreaking” and said the injured are being sent to the nearest hospital. The seriously injured passengers were being referred to AIIMS Rishikesh. He also wrote, “I pray to God that the departed souls find a place at His divine feet and that the bereaved families are granted the strength to endure this immense sorrow.” Uttarakhand CM also added that he is in constant touch with the local authorities regarding this matter.

5 SDRF Teams Deployed For Rescue After The Accident

Reportedly, the bus had skidded off the road in Narendranagar and fallen into the gorge. The vehicle was initially believed to be carrying 30-35 people, but reports say that only 28 passengers were actually on board. After learning about the accident, SDRF deployed five teams from Post Dhalwala, Post Koti Colony and the SDRF Corps Headquarters to the site.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, five deaths were confirmed on the scene. Officials evacuated the other injured passengers from the gorge and rushed them to nearby hospitals for treatment. Passengers on board the bus were reportedly not from Uttarakhand. Their identities are yet to be confirmed.

Authorities are now awaiting further details on the unfortunate bus accident in Uttarakhand.
