Devotees, take note! The Vaishno Devi Yatra, one of the holiest pilgrimages for Hindus in India, was suspended on Friday after several regions of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed heavy rainfall and snowfall. This marks the first snowfall of the season in the holy Trikuta Hills. Here’s more on the latest development.
Vaishno Devi Yatra Suspended
The weather changed rapidly in the Trikuta Hills in Jammu and Kashmir. The region experienced its first snowfall of the season. According to a report by Zee News, the sudden change in weather prompted authorities to temporarily suspend the Vaishno Devi Yatra for safety reasons.
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board also shared images of the Bhawan covered in fresh snow. They wrote, “Season’s first snowfall at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. Devotees were blessed to witness breathtaking weather as fresh snow gently adorned the holy surroundings of Maa Vaishno Devi Bhawan and Bhairon Temple, filling the atmosphere with serenity, devotion, and divine bliss.”
The visuals looked breathtaking and evoked a strong sense of devotion among devotees. According to a report by ABP News, authorities have asked pilgrims to stay in Katra. No yatri will be allowed to proceed from the base camp to the shrine until further orders are issued.

Snowfall In Jammu & Kashmir
Moderate to heavy snowfall has also been reported from other high-altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Images and videos circulating on social media show several parts of the Kashmir Valley blanketed in white. While the visuals look stunning, the snowfall has affected travel. Srinagar Airport issued an advisory warning that flights could be delayed due to the weather. They advised passengers to stay in touch with their respective airlines for updates.
Heavy traffic was reported on major routes, including the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Officials have also ordered the closure of schools in areas that received heavy snowfall on Friday, as a precautionary measure.
