Passenger Finds Insect In Food On Vande Bharat Train
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation imposed a ₹10 lakh fine on the service provider after a passenger found an insect in his food on a Vande Bharat train. Taking to X, passenger Aditya Didwania posted photos and videos of the meal, prompting everyone to stop eating. The pictures show a meal box filled with dal-chawal, housing a cockroach-like insect. Aditya Didwania shared images from his journey on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Vande Bharat train, stating that he had found an insect in the meal he was served. He wrote, “Found an insect in Vande Bharat train food (Ahmedabad → Mumbai). At least 2 such cases in my coach; everyone stopped eating after that.”
He also named the vendor and requested the authorities to raid them, “I am certain the food is not being prepared as per FSSAI standards,” he further wrote.
IRCTC Responds To The Matter
As soon as the post went viral, IRCTC responded to the incident and stated in the comments: “Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted. The matter has been viewed with utmost seriousness, and a hefty penalty of Rs 10 lakh, along with termination notice of the contract, is being issued to the Service Provider. The kitchen is sealed for deep cleaning and pest control. Hygiene and passenger safety remain our topmost priority.”
This is the second case recorded in the past month. Similar controversy made waves last month, when IRCTC faced penalties from the Ministry of Railways after a passenger complained about finding worms in the curd served during a train journey.

The repeated cases raise serious concerns regarding the food quality and hygiene issues while preparing the food on the train. While the IRCTC has promised that legal action has been taken, the incident led to widespread discussions about the need for consistent hygiene checks and strict actions across the railway food services.
