Vande Bharat Staff Heats Food Directly In Plastic Packets; Netizens: “Food Safety Is A Joke”

Vande Bharat food

A passenger travelling on the Vande Bharat recently from Allahabad to Delhi made a post on X about the food on the train being heated directly in the plastic packet. Not just that, she also claimed that on a separate trip on the Rajdhani train, she was once again given hot meals packed inside the hot plastic cover. The post has gone viral on social media, and netizens have expressed their strong opinions on it.

Vande Bharat Passenger Alleges Food Was Heated Inside Plastic Pack

A woman on X, Avani Bansal, recently shared a post complaining about the food on the Vande Bharat and Rajdhani. On her journey on the Rajdhani from Delhi to Allahabad, she was served rotis/kachoris that were heated directly inside sealed plastic packaging. Since she was hungry, she ate the kachori almost instantly and then realised how the kachori could be hot if it was inside a sealed package. She then realised that the staff had heated the sealed plastic packet directly.

The next day, on her return journey from Allahabad to Delhi on Vande Bharat, the same thing repeated, and she could not help herself from highlighting this issue. The ‘Halka Phulka’ roti packet she was served clearly had no ‘microwave safe’ indication written on the packet. Yet the packets were hot. Avani Bansal also mentioned in her post that a person on the train confirmed that the rotis were being heated directly in the packet. Can you believe that?

Viral Post Triggers Health Concerns Among Netizens

Avani Bansal also wrote that food-grade plastic is not heat-safe until it is mentioned on the packet. Heating plastic packets directly can increase chemical migration into food, which can be very harmful. She then requested IRCTC, Union Minister for Railways of India Ashwini Vaishnaw, and railway authorities to look into the matter.

Avani Bansal ended her now-viral post by writing, “Passenger safety deserves application of mind – not just efficiency. Just to make the passengers who IRCTC is serving hot food, how can such a careless thing be done – playing with the health of lakhs of people who are eating this food?”

Netizens were visibly angered by this whole situation. One of them wrote, “Everyone wants to take a shortcut for everything.”  Another X user commented, “This is a serious health issue. No wonder Food safety is a joke in our country.” However, many netizens also mentioned that most packets served inside trains are heat-safe. But authorities should still come up with an official statement, as it involves the health of millions of people.
