Travelling to Kashi Vishwanath Temple is about to get much more convenient. Varanasi’s upcoming ropeway project, which is also India’s first urban public transport ropeway, is almost near its completion, and fares have already been finalised. Want to know more about it? Read on!

Varanasi Ropeway Nears Its Completion

Once completed, travellers will be able to commute from Varanasi Cantt Station to Godowlia in just 15-16 minutes, greatly reducing travel time and aiming to ease traffic congestion in the city. As per a report by NDTV, the maximum fare for the entire route has been set at ₹50.

The ropeway is all set to connect the four major stations like the Varanasi Cantt, Vidyapeeth, Rath Yatra and Godowlia Chowk. According to the fare structure, people travelling the full stretch from Cantt to Godowlia will pay ₹50, while people opting for much shorter trips, such as Vidyapeeth to Rath Yatra, will pay as little as ₹20.

To benefit locals and frequent travellers, people who hold the Kashi Smart Pass will receive a 20% discount on fares. This means the journey from Cantt to Godowlia will cost ₹40 instead of ₹50. Not only this, but the monthly pass holders will be eligible for a 30% discount.

The ropeway stops will also offer passenger-friendly facilities. The facilities include the cloakroom at Varanasi Cantt station and will allow travellers to store luggage free of charge for up to two hours. After that, a fee of ₹50 per hour will apply for baggage weighing up to 15 kg.

Premium Gandola & Modern Amenities

The project will also feature premium gondola services that are customised for tourists and group bookings. While a private gondola ride will cost ₹2,000, bookings by companies or groups will be available at ₹1,200 per gondola.

All four stations have been furnished with modern facilities, including lifts, escalators, CCTV surveillance, fire safety systems and digital ticketing. Special requirements have also been made for senior citizens, women and differently abled passengers.

Once fully operational, the ropeway will enhance connectivity between Varanasi Cantt Railway Station, Godowlia, Dashashwamedh Ghat and Kashi Vishwanath Dham, providing a faster, cleaner and more efficient alternative to navigating the city’s congested roads.
