Veg Indian Tourist Slams McDonald’s Singapore Staff For Serving Non-Veg Burger; Netizens React

McDonald's

Many vegetarians from India often find it difficult to order food for themselves abroad. This happens because of limited vegetarian options at fast-food chains. Yes, some do offer vegetarian dishes, but the choices are few. And sometimes, ordering food abroad can get confusing too because of language and labelling differences. Recently, a woman traveller from India, who is apparently vegetarian, was served a non-veg burger at a McDonald’s in Singapore. The video of her slamming the staff is now going viral. Here’s what happened.

McDonald’s Singapore Serves Non-Veg Burger To A Vegetarian Indian Tourist

When vegetarians or even non-vegetarians order food abroad, the packaging usually mentions the food type on the box. But that wasn’t the case when an Indian woman ordered a veg burger for herself at a McDonald’s in Singapore. A video posted by an Instagram user (@youngn.lost) shows the woman, a tourist from India, crying after being served a non-veg burger. She could be heard asking, “I am Indian, how could you do this?” to the staff member.

Other customers were seen standing and watching the scene unfold. The woman mentioned she had ordered a vegetarian burger but was served a non-vegetarian one instead. She also added that her burger box didn’t mention it was non-veg. According to the Instagram post, the woman threw her burger box on the floor and left the outlet crying.

Netizens React With Mixed Opinions

The Instagram post has garnered thousands of views. Many netizens have flooded the comments section to share their opinions,  and yes, they were mixed. While some users expressed sympathy for the woman, others did not. One user wrote, “Well, the staff are not obligated to check each customer’s dietary preferences. I would be extra careful to check before placing my order to ensure the food was vegan or vegetarian.” Another pointed out that she should have checked the box or burger properly before eating, as it was also her responsibility.

Several users also mentioned that many McDonald’s outlets abroad, especially in Singapore, don’t serve vegetarian food and that she should have known that before going there. Clearly, the people on the internet are divided on the issue. Vegetarians being served non-veg food items has become quite a common occurrence now. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened.
