“We Respect All Cultures,” Delhi Restaurant Apologises To Couple, Updates Attire Signboard & Offers Discounts

Following backlash over a couple allegedly being denied entry to a Delhi restaurant for wearing Indian attire, the owner and the manager have now issued a video apologising for the incident. Not only that, but they have also announced special discounts for women wearing traditional outfits on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Delhi Restaurant Owner Issues Apology & Offers Discounts

Recently, a woman in Indian attire was allegedly denied entry to Tobata in Pitampura, Delhi. The incident has angered many Indian citizens. For those who are unaware, a video circulating on social media, showed a man in casual clothing and a woman in a salwar suit. The couple claimed that the restaurant not only refused them entry because of their clothes but also misbehaved with them.

As per a report by ETV Bharat, the matter caught the attention of Delhi’s Culture and Art Minister, Kapil Mishra, who called the incident “completely unacceptable”. The minister has now revealed that the restaurant’s management has apologised, and will also offer special discounts to women wearing Indian attire.

Restaurant Calls It A Misunderstanding

Tubata’s owner, Neeraj Aggarwal and the general manager said the incident was a misunderstanding. They claimed the restaurant respects all forms of clothing. They added that all women are welcome, whether they wear a saree or a salwar suit. Furthermore, to celebrate Raksha Bandhan, the restaurant will offer a 10% discount and a complimentary dessert to women in Indian attire. In a video shared by @NirajBora3 on X, the staff can be seen updating their signboard, which states: “all type of Indian attire is allowed in the restaurant”. 

This incident not only triggered public outrage but also drew a reaction from CM Rekha Gupta, who directed officials to initiate an investigation and take necessary action. Both the owner and the manager have apologised, calling the episode a misunderstanding while announcing the discounts.
