Due to the ongoing US-Israel conflict, the supply of commercial gas in India is facing a shortage, raising concerns across the hospitality sector. On Monday, the Bangalore Hotels Association announced that the supply of commercial gas cylinders has been suspended, leading to a major crisis for the hotel industry. Will this lead to a complete shutdown of hotels in Bengaluru? Read on to find out.

Hotels In Bengaluru Face Major Crisis Amid Commercial Gas Shortage

According to NDTV, the Bangalore Hotels Association stated that hotels across the city will remain shut from Tuesday; however, later they stated that the hotels will continue to operate. An association president told the media house that they are not shutting down and will serve people till the last drop, but the government should discuss this matter and help hotel owners.

Apart from the hotel owners, the disruption is also expected to affect common people, senior citizens, students and people who depend largely on hotels for daily food.

Earlier, the association said in a notice that oil companies had assured there would be no disruption in gas supply for up to 70 days. However, the sudden halt has now triggered a major crisis for the industry. Hoteliers have urged the concerned ministers to take immediate action and restore the supply of LPG.

Agencies To Prioritise LPG Output For Domestic Consumers

Due to the shortage, all the hotels across Bengaluru have decided to remain shut starting tomorrow. The gas supply shortage is impacted by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. However, the government has ordered agencies to boost LPG output and prioritise domestic consumers.

As per NDTV, the prices of LPG were hiked by a steep ₹60 per cylinder on Saturday. This marked the second increase in price in less than a year after the price was hiked by ₹50 last year. The government also claimed that the price hike in commercial cylinders is based on a hike in Saudi Arabia’s crude price, which has substantially increased in the past few months.
