Borivali is one of Mumbai’s busiest railway stations on the Western Line, known for its major commuter-friendly transformation. In recent developments, MLA Sanjay Upadhyay visited the redeveloped precinct outside Bandra Railway Station. After the visit, he proposed a similar makeover for Borivali, aiming to improve pedestrian safety for commuters.
Bandra-Style Makeover On The Cards For Borivali Station?
According to Mid-Day, the move comes amid growing concerns over chaotic and overcrowded conditions outside both the east and west exits of Borivali Railway Station. Currently, the station’s entry points are said to be covered with disorganised rickshaw queues, narrow pedestrian pathways and heavy mixed traffic congestion. Crowds get out of control during peak hours, especially at the east exit.

As per the proposal by Sanjay Upadhyay, the redevelopment would introduce newly defined auto and share-rickshaw stands, reserved BEST bus halts and wider pedestrian zones to allow smooth movement. The plan is to create a structured precinct for daily travellers with better traffic circulation, reducing the daily chaos that has become a regular problem at Borivali station.
As per Mid-day, Borivali ranks among Mumbai’s highest-footfall stations, yet the space outside remains poorly planned. Both east and west exits are encroached upon by hawkers, often blocking entry lanes. Driving on the wrong side of the road and breaking rules are common occurrences on the route. Overcrowding regularly extends beyond station premises and onto adjoining roads.
All You Need To Know About The Proposed Offer
Talking about the plan to the news portal, Sanjeev Upadhyay stated that Borivali sees even higher footfall than Bandra and needs proper auto stands, bus stops and space for travellers to move comfortably.
The Bandra-style makeover of Borivali also includes the removal of bottlenecks near station exits. The project is expected to be funded through MLA development funds, with the next step involving discussions with the railway ministry and state authorities.

If implemented properly, the Bandra-style redesign could bring long-overdue relief to thousands of daily commuters travelling to and from the Borivali station. This will resolve all the congestion and safety hazards of the Borivali station.
