A woman from Gujarat discovered a mobile phone, used to secretly record videos of customers, hidden in the restroom of a restaurant in Surat. The shocking incident took place at K’s Charcoal Restaurant in Piplod, Surat. A report was immediately filed at the Umra Police Station. Here’s what happened after.

A woman in Surat was embroiled in a horrifying incident when she discovered a mobile phone hidden in the toilet’s exhaust fan in a restaurant on Sunday evening. As per a report by The Times of India, the woman, who was out dining at K’s Charcoal Restaurant in Piplod, noticed the phone when she turned around to use the flush. She immediately called her friend, who helped her retrieve it.

On finding a video of herself recorded on the device, she wasted no time and went straight to the Umra Police Station to file a complaint. Reportedly, the police later arrested a sweeper named Surendra Rana, 30, who had been working at the restaurant for three years.

Police Investigation Underway

As per the same report, the Umra police also seized two other mobile phones from him. During the investigation, four indecent videos of customers were found in them as well. Both phones have now been sent for technical examination to ascertain how long he had been recording these obscene videos. Moreover, the police are also probing whether the sweeper had sold or forwarded the videos to anyone.

The restaurant in Surat has now issued a statement apologising for the incident. They told TOI that the team at K’s Charcoal is deeply shocked by what happened. They added that a fresh, thorough screening of every staff member is now being carried out to prevent such incidents in future. The restaurant has also been temporarily closed until all safety checks and measures are in place.

This news comes as a shocker and raises questions about women’s safety and right to privacy. Investigations are still underway, and further details are now awaited.
