As food lovers, we believe that every dish, regardless of its cuisine or flavours, should be enjoyed to the fullest. That said, trying something new can be both intimidating and exciting at the same time. And this one might spark strong reactions! An Indian woman recently tried sushi for the first time and, let’s just say, her way of eating it wasn’t exactly conventional.
Indian Woman’s First Sushi Try Turns Chaotic
They say sushi is an acquired taste, and well, we aren’t here to start a debate but rather talk about how the famous Japanese dish is eaten! You’d usually see people either eat it like a pro with a chopstick or simply grab and eat it with their hands. But an Indian woman, @sonupakerla, has taken it a step ahead.
She took to Instagram to share her ‘POV’ of eating sushi for the first time. In the video, she places the sushi on her plate and mashes it, causing the fillings to spill out. She then adds generous amounts of soy sauce along with a large dollop of wasabi. Mixing everything together, she gathers the blend and eats it much like khichdi. Clearly, the video was staged and made just for fun. She wrote in the caption, “No offence to Japanese culture, I love sushi.”

Netizens Share Their Two Cents
This goes without saying, the internet had a lot to say about this Indian woman eating sushi like a khichdi. While many netizens described the act as disrespectful to Japanese cuisine, others argued that people should be free to eat food the way they prefer.
“RIP, sushi,” one user commented.
A Japanese netizen wrote, “You can eat sushi with your hands. Don’t crush the sushi, try eating it just like that with a little bit of soy sauce.”
Another one wrote, “I’m from Japan. I understand Indian culture, but I felt a little bit offended when she crushed the whole sushi roll.”
“Makes no sense though, it’s already small and easy to dip and eat. Why are you smushing it up to recompact it?” someone questioned.
One user wrote, “Please do not disrespect the food and its culture.”
Some were simply taken aback by the amount of wasabi she added. One user wrote, “Whoa, that amount of wasabi you just took my anxiety level to a whole new level!”
One user also commented, “Zero civic sense!”
