The recently renovated Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi later this month. The tentative date set for this important event is September 22, though officials say the Prime Minister’s final schedule is still being worked out.

PM Modi May Inaugurate Redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the restored Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, southern Tripura, on September 22. According to Free Press Journal, officials confirmed on Sunday that preparations are underway. Over the weekend, senior officials, including Anurag, the Director General of Police for Tripura, inspected the Gomati district to confirm security and preparations for the visit.

The Tripura Sundari Temple, popularly known as Mata Tripureshwari Temple, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas revered by Hindus. The shrine is over 500 years old and regarded as the spiritual centre of Tripura. It is also counted among the top three Shakti Peethas in eastern India, alongside the Kalighat Temple in Kolkata and the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati.

The redevelopment of the temple has been carried out under the PRASHAD scheme (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) of the Union Tourism Ministry. More than ₹52 crore was spent on the project, with the Tripura government contributing an additional ₹7 crore, Free Press Journal reported. The facelift is aimed at preserving the temple’s heritage while also making it more convenient and welcoming for devotees from across the country.

But the redevelopment of the temple is not the only big project in the works. As per the Free Press Journal reports, the Union Tourism Ministry has also approved a massive ₹97.7 crore plan to create a 51 Shakti Peethas Park at Banduar village, just 4 km from the temple. This park will be a unique religious tourism destination, showcasing replicas of all 51 Shakti Peeth temples from across the Indian subcontinent.

For the people of Tripura, the redevelopment of the historic Tripura Sundari Temple is a step towards opening new doors for religious tourism. If Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the redeveloped shrine, it will be a historic moment of pride for the people of Tripura.
