An Indian travel vlogger Dheeraj Meena visited Indonesia’s deep jungles to meet the Korowai tribe, known for their history of cannibalism (meaning eating human flesh), and documented his interactions with them on social media. Korowai tribe is also known as the ‘cannibalistic tribe’. Dheeraj Meena met the Korowai tribe, who have lived in isolation for centuries, surviving on hunting, gathering, and fishing. Meena’s videos, some of which have been viewed over 35 million times, have shared his experiences with the Korowai tribe.

More About The Korowai Tribe

The Korowai people, indigenous to the Papua province of Indonesia, have been sensationalised in modern media for their association with cannibalism, a practice of eating human flesh. While it is believed that the tribe historically practised cannibalism as part of their spiritual and social beliefs, it has largely faded over time. The tribe’s connection to cannibalism is a historical fact.

An Indian vlogger recounted his journey to reach the Korowai tribe, which he described as living in remote areas with a traditional lifestyle. He mentioned that they don’t wear clothes and live in separate houses for men and women, with tree houses high above the ground. The journey to reach the place involved a flight, a 10-hour boat ride, and a 4-hour trek through dense jungles.

Upon meeting the tribe members, Meena asked them about their historical cannibalistic practice, which was once practised by their father’s generation. The Korowai man explained that the practice was common 16 years ago, but it is no longer followed today. The Korowai tribe had several groups, and when rivals fought, they would sometimes capture and kill each other.
