No matter how old you are or for how long you have been staying abroad, the Indian urge to mentally convert foreign currency to Indian rupee before buying anything never changes! And when you’re out shopping with your parents, this mental calculator never shuts off. Digital creator Gaurav Batra took to Instagram to share a cute video of his parents reacting to UK grocery prices and netizens are loving their reactions.

Indian Parents React To UK Grocery Prices

Digital creator Gaurav Batra (@humtuminengland) has been living in London for a while and often posts about life in the UK with his wife. Recently, his parents visited him from India. He took them for grocery shopping and recorded their reaction to the prices of common veggies there. He shared a video with their reaction and added a caption, “Took my Indian parents to a UK supermarket and their reactions were priceless.”

The video starts with him explaining to his mother that a single cauliflower cost about ₹200. Flagbested, she asked him twice if the single piece was for 200 or if it was for a kilogram. “Isko rakh de wapas, hume nahi khaani,” she cutely responded after clarifying the price.

His parents next stopped by to shop for some coriander and green chillies at the UK grocery store and they were for about ₹150 and ₹200, respectively. “Itni mahengi…wah re! Bahut mahenga hai yahan toh,” the mother said. Gaurav then checked the prices for a carton of beer with his father and he said, “Bas beer hi sasti hai yahan.” Gaurav called the entire shopping experience in a UK grocery shop with his parents “the ultimate shock therapy”.

As you can imagine, the internet loved the Indian parents’ reaction to grocery prices in the UK. While many people in the comments section called them cute, others pointed out how they represented all the Indians settled abroad.

One of the comments read, “Papa’s reaction to beer, trying to control his happiness!”

Another shared, “My mum was shocked as well to see “100 Rupay me ek Baigan”. It is just cute Indian things.”
