Indian Railways Introduces Selfie Points At Various Stations

Under 140 Characters

5 major stations across Rajasthan have introduced selfie points to reduce selfie-related deaths in the state.

What Is It?

There have been records for the number of times Indians have managed to get themselves injured, or worse, even killed, for the perfect selfie. As a precautionary measure, Rajasthan has introduced the concept of ‘selfie point’ across 5 major stations across the state. Currently Jaipur, Udaipur, Bikaner, Gandhi Nagar and Jodhpur have selfie points and 70 more stations across the country have been selected to install these points.

What Do We Know?

According to a report in 2016, more people in India have died due to selfie accidents than any other place in the world. With this project, selfie points will be established on foot over bridges or at platform no 1 at most stations.

The points have already been established across Rajasthan stations, but they will be installed in the rest of the country by December 2018.

Along with selfie points, Indian Railways are also planning to install some more facilities inside the stations including ATMs in waiting halls, phone charging points, wheelchair assistance and volunteers.
