YouTuber Questions The Safety Of Indian Railways

Kanika Devrani, a YouTuber and a content creator, recently shared a video on her official handle claiming Indian Railways is not safe.  She mentioned that after wrapping up her Uttarakhand trip, she was on her way to Assam via the 2AC coach of the Brahmaputra Mail after failing to get a 1AC ticket. She mentioned in the video that both 1AC and 2AC are considered safe, but what happened during the journey left her and many of her followers shocked and angry.

According to her, the train departed from Delhi at around 11:40 pm and stopped at New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal between 3- 4 am. During this time, while the coach was dark and most passengers were asleep, an unknown man allegedly entered the train coach. Kanika said there was no TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) present, and the train warden allowed the man to enter without any questions.

She claimed the man sprayed a sedative inside the coach and stole several mobile phones, including hers. When she woke up, she could not remember what had happened. Using another phone, she tried contacting people and tracking the stolen device. Shockingly, the thief allegedly called her mother, pretending to be from the RPF (Railway Protection Force), and asked for the phone password, saying he had found her daughter’s device. Kanika said she filed multiple complaints and kept tracking the phone, but no action was taken by RPF or by the Assam Police.

Lack Of Action After Filing FIR

Later, Kanika approached the police to help track her phone. Although an FIR was finally filed after several attempts, there has still been no recovery of her lost mobile phone. She mentioned that as a content creator, her phone had important data. However, she also mentioned that today it was just her mobile phone; that man could have done a lot more damage than that.

Kanika said the incident made her question the safety of Indian trains. She usually travels alone, trusting the safety of the trains, but this incident has shocked her. She also shared the video on her Instagram and X accounts to raise awareness.

Her post received widespread support, with many users expressing anger at the lack of police action. Some even shared similar experiences. One user commented under her Instagram post, “Please let’s not normalise this! It won’t be long until it happens with any one of us if we let this go,” urging authorities to act before such incidents become common.
