Indian Railways is considering reducing the fares on the Vande Bharat Express on a few short-distance routes. This is after registering low occupancy rates on the trains, which is quite the opposite of what was estimated. The Railways are mulling over this decision to reduce the fares, which will help attract more passengers and tourists on this semi-high-speed blue-white train. Keep reading to learn more details.

The fares on certain Vande Bharat routes are being considered for reduction by the Indian Railways. This includes Indore-Bhopal, Nagpur-Bilaspur, Bhopal-Jabalpur, and a few more. 

According to the June end data, the Indore-Bhopal Vande Bharat return journey witnessed only 21 percent occupancy. While in Bhopal-Indore, Vande Bharat saw only 29 percent occupancy. The distance between the two cities is covered in just two hours. 

The fares for this train depend on your direction, route, and class of travel. For instance, the fare for the AC Chair Car in Indore-Bhopal will be ₹950 while it will be ₹1,525 for the Executive Chair Car. Similarly, the AC Chair Car for Bhopal-Jabalpur will be ₹1,055 and the Executive Chair Car will be ₹1,880.

Best Performing Routes

Talking about the best-performing Vande Bharat Express, the Kasargod-Trivandrum train It has about 183 percent occupancy.

The Gandhinagar-to-Mumbai Central Vande Bharat Express has about a 134 percent occupancy rate. While Mumbai Central to Gandhinagar Vande Bharat has a 129 percent occupancy rate. 

An official told Hindustan Times that there are trains that run on a 100 percent occupancy rate, but they want all the trains to bring in a good occupancy rate. After reviewing the entire situation, the officials realised that lowering the fares of the trains with less travel time could help bring in more occupancy.
