More than thousands of Indian students are struggling their way out of Kharkiv with constant bombing sounds around them with the only intention of getting to a safer place. No transportation facility lead these students to walk constantly for hours without food and water.
Students Walked With 4 Friends For 14km
Thousands of Indian students were left in turmoil because of the rising tensison. Panic walked in among the students when Naveen SG was killed. On Wednesday morning, Pralay Kumar Nayak, a second-year medical student from Odisha with four of his friends walked 14km to reach a railway station in Kharkiv. They were hoping to board a train to Lviv where the Indian authorities were helping evacuate the students.
No Help At Railway Station
About 600 students were Indians among 1000 on the station. Initially, Ukrainian soldiers opened fire stopping Indians from boarding the train. Later they allowed females and children to board the train. By afternoon they received a message asking them to leave the city and reach any of the 3 suburbs selected by 6 pm. So the other 600 students decided to walk to the place.
While walking they saw bombings and firings very closely. They saw smoke covering the sky while the buildings were exploding. The fear they felt and witnessed cannot be expressed. They walked nonstop covering 30km until they reached the suburb at 6:30pm. The Indian education agents with the Indian Embassy and Ukraine authorities. Another student with a bunch of others walked about 25km and reached the suburb saw dead bodies covered with blood and witnessed bombings and firings.
With endless fear in their eyes yet with a lot of determination, these students are awaiting evacuation at the earliest.
