While India’s record-breaking Delhi-Mumbai Expressway dominates headlines, another monumental project is carving its path through the heart of the desert. The Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway, soon to be the nation’s second-longest, is on track for completion by December 2025. This ambitious undertaking promises to halve travel time between these commercially crucial cities, fundamentally reshaping connectivity across the region.

The Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway

This 1,316 km colossus, stretching from Amritsar in Punjab to Jamnagar in Gujarat, will significantly reduce the current arduous 1,516 km journey. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is making significant progress, with a substantial portion already operational.

The expressway’s impact transcends mere convenience for travellers. It’s poised to be an industrial game-changer. By stitching together industrial powerhouses in Amritsar and Gujarat, it will act as a vital artery, boosting connectivity and economic activity across the region.

India’s Second Longest Expressway

A new highway will bridge hundreds of kilometres of desert terrain in Rajasthan and Haryana, with roughly 500 km slicing through the golden sands of Rajasthan. This will transform the current gruelling 26-hour slog from Amritsar to Jamnagar into a breezy 13-hour trip. The expressway’s design allows for speeds of 100 km/h, dramatically slashing travel time.

This benefit extends beyond the immediate cities; residents of Delhi-NCR will gain direct access to Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Gujarat, thanks to the expressway’s connection with the Delhi-Katra Expressway. Travelling from Gujarat to Kashmir will also become a smoother affair.

The Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway isn’t just a road; it’s a catalyst for economic growth. It’s a testament to India’s infrastructure prowess, carving a path through the desert to connect people, businesses, and dreams, all at a breakneck pace.
