According to the Economic Times, the route had previously been dormant, leaving passengers to rely on connecting and longer flights. Jorhat stands as a gateway to north-east India, known for its tea gardens, proximity to Majuli, one of the world’s largest river islands, and Kaziranga National Park. The reinstated service is expected to ease travel for tourists, business travellers, and residents, promoting the region’s cultural and ecological attractions.

Regular connectivity to the national capital is poised to support pilgrim travel, educational tourism, and business interactions. The airline’s move will benefit travellers who seek direct, efficient access between central India and the south.

IndiGo expects that both routes will support regional trade and tourism, while fostering connections between key Indian states. As reported by the Economic Times, these additions form part of the airline’s strategy to enhance domestic connectivity and unlock growth opportunities. Improved air services often translate to more accessible markets, better business prospects, and increased travel, benefiting hotels, transport services, and cultural institutions in both Jorhat and Trichy.
