IndiGo, which is a low-cost airline in India, recently achieved a historical landmark. In 2023, IndiGo managed to carry 100 million passengers. This landmark achievement earned the airline a spot on the list of the ten largest airlines in the world by number of passengers. The airline celebrated its 17th anniversary this year and now, has another reason to celebrate
In 2022, IndiGo flew as many as 78 million passengers on domestic as well as international flights. According to an article which was recently published by News18, this number grew by 23 per cent this year. Pieter Elbers, who is the Chief Executive Officer or CEO of the airline said in a statement cited in the articles that he was delighted by this accomplishment.
This year, the airline has achieved remarkable success, especially in the last six months. According to an article which was recently published by Simple Flying, the airline has more than 60 per cent of the market share. IndiGo is also working on expanding its operations, both domestically as well as internationally.

As per the article, in 2023, the airline added around 20 new international routes in just six months. This means that the airline now flies to a total of 118 destinations. Out of these 118 destinations, 32 are international ones. These are not the only huge accomplishments that the airline has witnessed this year.
In addition to these, the airline got another feather in its cap when it became the first airline in India to fly more than 2,000 flights in a single day! These included passenger as well as cargo flights. The Simple Flying article also stated that IndiGo was the world’s sixth-largest airline by market cap and has a valuation of $13.8 billion, which is more than United Airlines, a US carrier.
In addition to this, IndiGo is also the biggest airline in a number of other metrics like frequency as well as seating capacity.
