Indonesian authorities have noted a rise in volcanic activity in Indonesia’s Ring of Fire, which may disrupt your travel plans. Located on Flores Island, Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki has seen a rapid increase in seismic activity recently. According to Travel And Tour World, on February 12, the officials raised the alert level for the eastern volcano to Level IV, warning of potential dangers.

Between January 3 and February 13, Mount Lewotobi noted a massive increase in seismic activity. Experts believe this indicates rising magma movement. As per the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (CVGHM), there is a fluctuating emission from the summit, with white and grey plumes reaching up to 1,500 metres. They also noted that weather conditions varied from clear skies to heavy rains. The shifting wind patterns affected ash dispersion as well. The authorities noted a surge in volcanic earthquakes between February 11 and February 13. This has further raised concerns, with ongoing magma supply increasing the likelihood of additional eruptive events.

Furthermore, they expanded the exclusion zone and ordered evacuations in six villages as a precaution. In November 2024, Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupted multiple times. The volcanic eruptions claimed nine lives, caused major travel disruptions with the cancellation of many international flights to Bali, and forced the evacuation of thousands.
