An Indonesian woman’s recent social media post has gone viral. She was amazed at how far RM10 could take her on Malaysia’s public transport. Alivia Awin, who recently moved to Malaysia, shared her discovery online. She found that RM10 was enough to explore all of Kuala Lumpur (KL) for an entire day using the Rapid KL network.
Explore Kuala Lumpur For RM10 A Day Using Rapid KL
She explained that in Jakarta, the same amount would barely cover a basic commute. The difference in affordability and efficiency between the two countries’ systems left her astonished. Alivia was impressed by how easy it was to navigate the city without a car. She pointed out that even a foreigner like her could use KL’s public transport system without hassle.
The key to her efficient day of travel in KL was the MyCity Pass, available for just RM10 per day. She shared a quick guide for those new to the city. The pass offers unlimited travel on the Rapid KL network. This includes the LRT, MRT, monorail, and buses. To make things even easier, the network also connects to the KLIA Express and KTM trains, covering most of the Klang Valley area.
Alivia’s tutorial on how to navigate KL starts with purchasing the MyCity Pass. Visitors can get this pass from major train stations or order it online. She recommends starting at KLIA Airport, where visitors can pick up the pass and immediately hop on the KLIA Express to central KL. She emphasised that this pass is incredibly convenient for anyone staying in the city for a short period.
Upgrade Your Pass
For those staying longer, Alivia advises upgrading to the MyCity Pass for three days at a cost of RM25. To do this, she suggests visiting the nearest station and asking for the upgrade. She also reminded travellers not to forget their passports, as they would be needed for this process.
Throughout her post, Alivia expressed how impressed she was with the ease of using the public transport system. She also mentioned the air-conditioned stations and smooth rides, which make the experience more comfortable, especially for those new to the city. Additionally, she highlighted the use of the Touch ‘n Go (TNG) card. This card not only serves for transport but can also be used for other payments, making it a versatile tool for tourists.
For real-time travel updates, she recommends using the MyRapid Pulse app. This is especially useful for checking bus schedules, which can sometimes be irregular. When in a rush, she prefers using Grab, a popular ride-hailing service.

Her final piece of advice for fellow travellers was to avoid peak office hours, particularly around transit stations. During these times, the stations can become crowded with commuters. Despite this, Alivia was quick to add that even at its busiest, KL’s public transport system is still less chaotic than what she experienced in Jakarta.
