Inspired Or Copied? Gaurav Khanna’s Dessert On Celebrity MasterChef Sparks Debate; Swiss Chef Responds

Celebrity MasterChef is one of the most trending reality shows on Indian television lately. Watching our favourite celebrities donning the chef’s hat and trying their hands in the kitchen is quite compelling. Recently, the show has been marred in controversy after Netizens pointed out striking similarities between actor Gaurav Khanna’s and a Swiss chef, Josia Reichen’s dessert. Is it inspired, copied or two original desserts from different parts of the globe coincidentally resembling each other?

Gaurav Khanna’s Dessert On Celebrity MasterChef Lands In Soup

A new promo from Celebrity MasterChef shows contestant Gaurav Khanna presenting a breathtakingly beautiful honey-dripping dessert. The actor is seen pouring sweet sauce into a meringue resembling a funnel atop the dessert glass. The honey falls into the dessert cup, one drop at a time. It trickles, drop by drop, into the beautifully presented dessert with a honeycomb adorning the glass.

Judges Vikas Khanna and Ranveer Brar look astounded, lost for words. Chef Ranveer Brar said he was speechless and called it a “living desert”. Vikas Khanna called it unexpected. And for the first time on MasterChef, without tasting the dish, only based on presentation, both the chefs dropped their spoons to communicate their appreciation.

Who’s The Original Creator?

As the promo video went viral in no time, Internet sleuths noticed the resemblance of Gaurav Khanna’s ‘live dessert’ to that created by Swiss chef and content creator, Josia Reichen.

Based out of the USA, the chef had posted a reel of his ‘Dripping Honey Dessert’ in May last year. The chef is seen preparing a honeycomb, drilling a hole in a meringue and assembling the dish in such a manner that the honey sits in the meringue and flows drop by drop into the dessert cup.

Josia Reichen reposted the Celebrity MasterChef promo on his Instagram stories with a sarcastic caption, “Well done, so creative.” The comments section of Reichen’s dessert revealed chef Aaron Clouse to be the original creator behind the honey dessert. Clouse’s “The Bees Knees” debuted in June 2021. So, perhaps, both Gaurav Khanna and Josia Reichen were inspired by Aaron Clouse’s dessert.
