In India, the majority of people travel by train. And if you are one of them, then you would have definitely experienced a delayed train. And that is a common problem. Often trains are delayed by several hours or passengers just miss them. And people have no idea how to get a refund for ticket fares. But here’s how you can get one with the help of a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR).
Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR)
The Ticket Deposit Rule is beneficial for those who have booked train tickets but did not travel. If you have faced a similar situation, then you can submit this Ticket Deposit Receipt and claim a refund. However, it takes at least sixty days to complete the refund process. This rule was introduced to ensure a better travel experience for passengers. Refund of railway tickets is based on the reason given by the passenger.

Reasons For Refund
In case the train is cancelled by the Railway corporation, then passengers will get a full refund automatically. But if there is an accident, flood or agitation, then online cancellation is required within seventy-two hours. If the train is running late for more than three hours, even then passengers will be granted a full refund. However, if there is a difference between fares or the air conditioner is not working properly, then you will need a certificate from the TTE stating the respective claim.
If you are wrongly charged by the TTE, you can get a full refund. However, you need to have the Excess Fare Ticket (EFT) issued by the TTE to claim a refund. In case you have partially travelled by Rajdhani or Jan-Shatabdi, there will be no refund. But if you haven’t travelled by train, then a refund will be granted according to the extant rule. For a tatkal ticket, you will have to cancel the ticket twenty-four hours before the scheduled departure. Even then, you will get a refund of twenty-five per cent of the ticket fare. You can even claim a refund in case the railway doesn’t provide accommodation.
So, the next time your train gets delayed, you can certainly get a refund.
