Monsoon has been the toughest time for Uttarakhand. The state is witnessing incessant rainfall, landslides and collapsing of houses. This has resulted in the deaths of several people and others are injured. And it has given rise to the question: is it safe to travel to Uttarakhand? Here’s all about the current situation of the state.

In the Chamoli district’s Helang within the Joshimath area, a house collapsed on Tuesday. To save persons trapped under the debris, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) conducted relief and rescue operations. Three persons in total were rescued right away and sent to the hospital, however, one person passed away on the spot.
Due to the area’s severe rainfall, a landslide happened in Bhanerpani close to Pipalkoti on the Badrinath route. Due to the area’s significant rainfall, a 50-metre piece of the highway washed out and was closed. The Chamoli police requested for vehicles travelling to Badrinath to only stop at Pipalkoti.

The SDRF successfully took 52 persons who were stranded in the Madmaheshwar valley in the village of Gaundar to safety utilising the rope river crossing technique.

All state-run schools and institutions will be closed on Wednesday due to inclement weather, according to a directive from the education department. According to a DNP India report, Shimla Deputy Commissioner Aditya Negi stated that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Army, the police and the SDRF started rescue operations at Summer Hill at six in the morning.
The rescue operations were suspended on Monday night after a strong downpour. The weather service issued an orange notice on Tuesday, August 15, and a yellow alert was in effect for the next four days, until August 19.

For tourists, the current status of the roads, highways and trains is not good. Trains from Delhi to Dehradun have been either cancelled or running late by several hours. Several landslide incidents have occurred on roads and highways. In fact, in Rudraprayag’s Bantoli, a portion of a pedestrian bridge collapsed and around 200 people were stranded!

A alert has been issued by the authorities and therefore, it is better to avoid travelling to Uttarakhand.
