Everything tastes better with some melty cheese on top. Well, if not everything, most dishes taste better with yummy cheese. From noodles to fries to sandwiches, cheese is like that one friend of the group who is everyone’s favourite, just like potatoes in a vegetable group. Though we love it endearingly, is processed cheese consumption healthy for us?

Should You Eat Processed Cheese Regularly?

We often watch aesthetic videos of making cheese at home. Though the videos and preparations look too pleasant to watch, most people do not have time to make cheese following such strenuous processes. At such times, store-bought options come in very handy for everyone. Is it convenient to buy packets and store them in a fridge? Yes. Is it easy to use them in coking anytime? Yes. But are they good for health? Sadly, no.

Dimple Jangda shared an insightful video explaining why processed cheese bought from shops affects health. These products have a long shelf-life. Any food item that can be stored for a long time simplifies the usage of a huge quantity of artificial colours, emulsifiers, and preservatives to extend its expiry date. The additional chemical ingredients are added to such an extent that they do not even get touched by mold.

Each processed cheese slice contains about 400 mg of sodium. This alarming presence of sodium is a major concern for high blood pressure and heart disease. These kinds of cheese do not have any nutrients. Rather, these are loaded with unhealthy fats. Consuming processed cheese is a lot similar to eating only additives and preservatives.

Are There Any Alternatives?

It may come as a major shock to many, including me, if someone suggests to stop eating cheese completely. While there is no need to avoid eating it, everyone can stop consuming processed options and find better and healthier substitutes. Dimple Jangda suggested eating cottage cheese prepared at home. Feta cheese, paneer, mozzarella cheese, and cashew cheese are some alternatives to add to your fridge shelf. The best option is to make cheese at home and relish its deliciousness.
